2023 Manual Transmission Cars

Here are the cars with manual transmission still available in 2023:

While manual transmission vehicles continue to be discontinued by automakers, (the casualties from 2022 include the Hyundai Veloster N and Mitsubishi Mirage), there are still 30 vehicles from 17 different manufacturers that offer a third pedal (clutch) in 2023. Even in cars without sporting intentions, the ability to row your own gives an engagement and level of control lacking in DCTs and automatics, which is why a very vocal minority of enthusiasts actively pursue keeping clutches in their, well, clutches.

Manual transmission enthusiasts have a win to celebrate in 2023, as the new Acura Integra comes to market with a manual transmission option just like its Honda Civic sibling. What used to be normalcy across all performance (and many economy) cars is now an increasingly niche feature disappearing from all but the most enthusiast-driven or least expensive vehicles. Here's a quick look at the final thirty cars with manual transmissions this year.

2023 Acura Integra

The best news for three-pedal drivers in a long while is that a new affordable sport compact featuring a manual has come on the scene, in the form of the 2023 Acura Integra. Despite the excellent quality of the new Integra's overall driving experience and shifter feel, the six-speed stick is only available on the top trim, showing just how niche the option is becoming.

2023 BMW M3 and M4

2023 BMW M3 and M4, manual transmission, shift stick.

They might not be prettiest, but the 2023 BMW M3 and M4 both offer amazing power and a manual option. While chassis balance is excellent and performance is swift, the six-speed manual's action is less than inspiring.

2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing

2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing shift stick, manual transmission

The big names of American luxury are somewhat surprisingly some of the last manual transmission cars, one of which is the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. The twin turbo V-6 in the CT4 is more fun when paired with the proper six-speed manual transmission.

2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

While Cadillac's Blackwing models are representative for the brand, the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is undoubtedly The Big Gun. Equipped with the ultimate combination of a thundering, supercharged V-8, a glorious six-speed manual, and all the luxury one could want in a full-size American sedan, the CT5-V Blackwing might just give you a permanent grin.

2023 Chevrolet Camaro

2023 Chevrolet Camaro shit stick, manual transmission.

The 2023 Chevrolet Camaro might be the only Chevy still on sale with a manual transmission, but they offer this option in a wide range of these Alpha-platform, high performance sports/GT cars. The whole range can be optioned with one of two six-speeds that can be bolted up, transforming an already fast car into an even better muscle car. Its electric replacement, however, will no longer offer the shift stick.

2023 Dodge Challenger

2023 Dodge Challenger manual transmission, shift stick

The old school customers of Dodge wouldn't stand for a manual-less final year of the wildly popular Challenger, so the 2023 Dodge Challenger comes with a three-pedal option. Only for the R/T models, though; for supercharged V-8 manual transmission you'll have to see a Chevy or a Cadillac model.

2023 Ford Bronco

Ford is one of the few carmakers to still produce more than one manual model, in this case both serious enthusiast machines like the 2023 Ford Bronco. While the seven-speed manual is only available with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, there are a many body and trim options available to build your ideal off-road vehicle.

2023 Ford Mustang

The six-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2023 Ford Mustang models with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8. Ford has its priorities straight, but an even better Tremec six-speed is available on the Mach 1.

2023 Hyundai Elantra N

If a performance deal sounds like an enticing proposition alongside a six-speed stick, the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N might just be your best bet among the all 2023 manual models. The Elantra N is up there with the best of the hot-hatch category, while being dramatically less expensive.

2023 Jeep Gladiator

2023 Jeep Gladiator manual transmission, shift stick.

If there is such a thing as a pickup truck sports car, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator is closest to that vehicle. Among the many traits that make the Gladiator so sporty are the ability to drop the top, impressive performance on its terrain of choice, a terrifying towing experience, and a manual transmission option.

2023 Jeep Wrangler

2023 Jeep Wrangler manual transmission, shift stick.

When it comes to a multiple trims and layouts to choose from, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler offers more manual options than almost any other model on the market, with legendary customizability similar to its new Bronco competitor.

2023 Kia Forte

2023 Kia Forte manual transmission, shift stick.

A good indicator of the changing status of the manual transmission in the auto industry is that in the Forte lineup it's only available as the headline feature of the top-of-the-line 2023 Kia Forte trim. Once the inexpensive basic option, the manual transmission is now something only a niche feature that enthusiasts want, and they're willing to pay an up-charge for it.

2023 Mazda 3

2023 Mazda 3 manual transmission, shift stick.

Long a source of driving enjoyment, Mazda still has a manual transmission option for its newly designed hatchback, the 2023 Mazda 3. That said, that manual transmission is not available with the more powerful turbocharged engine, or the AWD system.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata manual transmission, shift stick.

The MX-5 might not be the most powerful sports car around, but from day one it's had an enjoyable manual transmission. The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is no exception, with an effortlessly handled shift feel a step above pretty much everything else on the road.

2023 Mini Hardtop

2023 Mini Hardtop manual transmission, shift stick

Maxing out a 2023 Mini Hardtop's fun potential is as easy as opting for the six-speed manual. Just as customizable and fun as ever, even though some of the Mini family has lost the third pedal, the two and four door Hardtops still make it.

2023 Nissan Versa

2023 Nissan Versa manual transmission, shift stick

Representing one of the last of the "manual because it's cheap" cars, the 2023 Nissan Versa might have been updated in many ways, but it still offers a low-cost manual transmission feature, once the mainstream of economy-minded subcompacts. As with so many other small cars made better by that third pedal before, a manual makes the best use of the Versa's 122 hp.

2023 Nissan Z

2023 Nissan Z manual transmission, shift stick.

Of all the advertised features the 2023 Nissan Z debuted with, one that topped even discussion of the new Z's 400-hp twin-turbo V-6 was that it retained a manual transmission. This was aimed squarely at Toyota, whose Supra lacked a clutch pedal (since rectified). Toyota fixed that, but the Z still remained buzz-worthy.

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman

2023 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman manual transmission, shift stick.

While not very cheap, the 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman are not just the least expensive ways to get a mid-engine manual experience, but the only ways to get a mid-engine manual experience in a new Porsche in 2023. Get them while you can, as both will be electric in the nearest future.

2023 Porsche 911

2023 Porsche 911 manual transmission, shift stick

These days almost every car that still has a manual transmission either is a serious enthusiast machine built for fun instead of superlative speed, or something cheap with the third pedal old-schooled in. The 2023 Porsche 911 is an exception to the rule. The 911 remains high-performance supercar, with about as many trim options with a third pedal as anything else still on sale from this automaker. While the shorter-geared PDK transmissions are faster, the quickest manual options are the Sport Classic and GT3, capable of getting to 60 in under four seconds.

2023 Subaru BRZ

2023 Subaru BRZ manual transmission, shift stick.

Just like the Miata, the 2023 Subaru BRZ is one hell of a sports car, and a lot of that falls to the standard six-speed manual. Unlike the Miata, the BRZ has a backseat and enough interior space for four tires.

2023 Subaru Crosstrek

2023 Subaru Crosstrek manual transmission, shift stick.

A hatchback to some, a crossover to others, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is a top-rated subcompact SUV, and its base manual variant is one of the cheapest AWD vehicles on the market. Subaru ties with Toyota for most 2023 models available with manual transmissions, as both have four. The Subarus are cheap and cheerful cars.

2023 Subaru Impreza

2023 Subaru Impreza manual transmission, shift stick

If the Crosstrek isn't an inexpensive enough AWD option, the 2023 Subaru Impreza most certainly will be, as the most affordable AWD car for 2023. That's specifically true of the base-model sedan, which is a manual-exclusive trim. Get it while it lasts; the 2024 Impreza drops its manual entirely.

2023 Subaru WRX

2023 Subaru WRX manual transmission, shift stick.

While the 2023 Subaru WRX doesn't offer a manual shift stick in its top GT trim, you can get the turbocharged performance sedan with three pedals in Base, Limited, and Premium guises.

2023 Toyota GR Corolla

2023 Toyota GR Corolla manual transmission, shift stick

Driving fun is available via a stick-shift in the fast 2023 Toyota GR Corolla, the new "hottie" among hot hatchbacks. With 300 hp and a drive for rowdy fun, the GR Corolla gives AWD turbo enthusiasts a hatchback that won't be easily forgotten.

2023 Toyota GR86

2023 Toyota GR86 manual transmission, shift stick.

Like its Subaru BRZ sibling, the 2023 Toyota GR86 is a real looker of a sports car that also has some space for things besides a driver and passenger. The real difference between the two is that the GR86 is more willing to let its hair down with grin-generating oversteer.

2023 Toyota Supra

2023 Toyota Supra manual transmission, stick shift.

Besides the memes about it being a BMW, the Toyota Supra's lack of a stick was its biggest disappointment for many fans, rectified by the 2023 Toyota Supra. Now available with the transmission the automotive gods intended, it is both more fun and more likely to survive mean arguments.

2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport and Off-Road

2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport and Off-Road, manual transmission, stick-shift.

Besides the Gladiator, the only small pick-up trucks you can get for 2023 with a stick-shift are the 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport and Off-Road, both enthusiast machines in the sweet spot between the low-buck entry level Toyota Tacoma and the full-fat TRD Pro whose buyers expect it to do the shifting for them.

2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R

2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R manual transmission, stick-shift.

The Volkswagen Golf models were once a joyride car, but now the fun is less evenly spread, with most of it landing on the 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R. Both the front-wheel-drive GTI and all-wheel-drive R are both available with six-speed manual transmissions, to increase your fun on the road.

2023 Volkswagen Jetta

2023 Volkswagen Jetta manual transmission, stick-shift.

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta continues to be wonderful often overlooked treasures on wheels. Six-speed sticks are available on the S, Sport, and hopped up GLI models, so you can have third pedal fun and speed without the flash of a sports car.
