GM Leaks Details About The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Electric SUV

General Motors has leaked details about its 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, revealing a highly price-competitive compact electric SUV with which it’s hoping to capture newcomers to the EV market. The Equinox follows the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Blazer EV as the latest electric vehicle offering from the GM brand this year.

“We are at a turning point where EVs will be the mainstream choice for the next generation of customers, and Equinox EV will lead this charge for us. With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium Platform, we are bringing to market vehicles at nearly every price point and for every purpose,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors.

That price point for the Equinox is intentionally lower than most if not all of the competition, as Chevy is hoping to convert former gas-car buyers into EV’ers with an approximately $35,000 sale price for the entry-level 1LT trim. Pricing for the elevated trims has not been announced.

The range for the 1LT standard FWD model is estimated at 400 to 480 km; and 450 km for the eAWD model. The range remains the same – 480 km for FWD and 450 for AWD – as you move up through the 2LT and 3LT trim levels and onto the top-level 2RS and 3RS. Power, meanwhile, is rated at 210 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque for the FWD models; and 290 horsepower and 346 lb-ft for the AWD models.

Visually, there’s not too much to compare between the electric Equinox and its gas relative, save for bits of the exterior and the nameplate itself. The SUV’s lines dictated by its Ultium underpinnings run more similar to the Blazer EV’s, and the front end now boasts a full-width light bar and a solid fascia; it’s body-colored in the lower trims, but comes black in the RS models. The roof gets quirkier as the trims rise, too, with the LT optioning a two-tone roof and the RS available in black up top. Wheels are 19 inches standard, with 20- and 21-inch options available on the upper LT and RS trims.

Inside, the Equinox seats five over its two rows and offers one-pedal driving along with an 11-inch infotainment screen and 11-inch instrument cluster in the 1LT and 2LT models; and a 17.7-inch infotainment screen with the 3LT, 2RS, and 3RS.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is set to arrive in dealers in the fall of 2023, but we expect to take a closer look at the Detroit auto show next week.

We are interested in the type of roadside assistance GM will offer for this new EV, how GM's On-Star system will work in case the car battery is completely dead. We will keep you posted on the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV details as they come out.
